In early November, CoTESOL invited educators from all over Colorado and beyond to attend their 46th Annual Fall Convention in Thornton, Colorado. This year, the conference focused on sharing promising practices, research, and insights related to the theme, “Moving Mountains for Multilinguals.”
Did you know that Colorado Gives Day is December 5? Intercambio has participated in this special day of giving for several years, and this year, our goal is to raise $60,000 for Colorado Gives Day. Any donations made now through December 5 count towards our goal and are eligible for an additional boost through the special Colorado Gives Day Incentive Fund.
Intercambio is excited to share that we have created a library of videos to accompany the Language Tools sections of our Confidence and Connections book lessons. We produced this set of 11 videos to help learners through challenging English language topics.

Your support in the past fiscal year allowed us to strengthen and scale what we do best—bringing English learners and community volunteers together in language classes and gatherings to build skills, confidence, and life-changing connections.
This summer, we sat down with Intercambio students Julio and his daughter, Alenia. The two spoke of the meaningful connections they have made since they started taking English classes with Intercambio and the ways they are working to give back to their community.
If you’ve ever participated in our online English classes through CC English, you may have had the pleasure of meeting Tina Hayes. She’s recently started a new adventure in London, but we were lucky enough to get to chat with her about her journey at Intercambio just before she left.
I encourage anyone who has an interest in teaching English to an adult—while learning as much from them as we offer—to become a CC English volunteer. You don’t need to have a teaching background because the curriculum does it for you.

CC English has done the hard work for you. They provide teachers and students with great resources, timely support, and the one-on-one ratio mitigates some of the nerves associated with standing in front of a class of students. There is really no chance of failure, just degrees of success.
After looking for a concrete way to create impact in her community, long-time Boulder County resident Linda registered to volunteer with Intercambio. “I signed up to teach, and they, thank goodness, paired me with Norma. We’ve been together for five and a half years,” she says.
“My name is Shel Gerding. I’ve been volunteering for Intercambio for a couple of years now, where I teach English to adults. My background is that I have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, and I didn’t have much linguistic training. However, I’ve always been really interested in languages. I’ve traveled a lot, and I can speak a little bit of French…”
There are two main reasons why I’ve chosen Intercambio and many reasons why I will continue. The first two reasons are the price—it cannot be beat—and the second is it’s the first truly community-based curriculum I’ve come across in my 20+ years of teaching.
