Intercambio’s new online platform, CC English, was recently featured in EdTech Center at World Education’s study titled Creating Equitable Access to Remote Adult ESOL: Multiple Contexts, Distinct Populations, and Diverse Purposes. Over the winter and spring months of 2021, World Education, Inc. set out to find “promising remote ESOL instruction with the potential to reshape the delivery of ESOL in the months and years to come,” they said. The project investigated selected ESOL programs’ and learners’ needs, experiences, and support practices that rely mainly on remote technology. The study shared examples of programming that supports equitable access to technology-rich, well-supported ESOL instruction that can be expanded to reach more people.
The pandemic paused in-person classes, forcing Intercambio to make the shift to online teaching and learning. CC English was created as a result of that shift. The platform is an accessible, structured, and scalable way to connect volunteer teachers with English language learners from all over the country. CC English digitally facilitates Intercambio’s signature relationship-based English classes using our curriculum Confidence and Connections. Even remotely, the unique connections between students and volunteer teachers open doors to share perspectives and experiences, building bridges across cultures and fostering powerful two-way learning. Plus, the automated registration, matching, training, and scheduling processes make it possible for so many more people to participate.
EdTech’s study said that CC English and other similar programs “have proven popular and hold the promise to further scale-up.” We hope to have 500 participants within the first 12 months.
CC English will be launching very soon! If you are interested in being part of the program, click here.
