Teacher Tip – Headline Assembly Activity

Here is a great activity to do with your students!

Headline Assembly:

Understanding newspaper headlines is not easy. Headlines are rarely in sentence form and parts of speech are often missing. Still, they can provide students with a great opportunity to look at specific grammatical structures. Try this activity with a high-intermediate, or advanced group.

Take the individual words from the headline of a story and put each word on a separate card for students to assemble. Mix up the words and distribute. When the students have assembled the headline, ask them about what they think the story is going to be about.
