Teacher Tip – It’s a Roller Coaster Ride

Learning English is like riding a roller coaster. While students and teachers want to see continuous smooth progress, the truth is that learning English has it’s ups and downs. Students may make a lot of progress one month and then seem to backslide the next.

How can you help?
–Give your student continuous feedback. At the end of each lesson, point out a new word, phrase or structure they have learned.
–Set realistic expectations. It will take most students several years to acquire English. Sometimes they will get stuck, but with persistence they can move forward.
–Let your student know it’s OK to feel discouraged every once in a while, but it’s important not to give up.

And remember, just like a roller coaster ride, learning English can be fun!
